This meeting was organized by the AEDIDH in collaboration with the International Institut Jacques Maritain and the Community of Sant Egidio and with the sponsorship of the regional governments of Catalonia and the Basque Country, and the support of the Spanish Embassy in Italy and the Cervantes Institute. In addition, the meeting was supported by FAO and the World Food Programme.
At the inaugural ceremony the persons to participate were Mr. Villán Carlos Duran, President of the AEDIDH, Mr. Roberto Papini, Secretary General of the International Institut Jacques Maritain, Ms Barbara Ekwall, coordinator of the Unit of the right to food of FAO and Mrs. Fanny Rubio, director of the Cervantes Institute. There was a press conference to present the book of the Luarca Declaration.
The first working session was moderated by Vincenzo Pellegrini, director of the National Commission for UNESCO. The speakers were Mr. Carlos Villán, which covered the history of the Luarca Declaration, and Mr. Giovanni Impagliazzo, Community of Sant-Egidio, who spoke on immigration, poverty and peace in Italy.
The second working session was devoted to the right to food as a component of the human right to peace. The panellist was Mr Nicholas Crawford, Head of Humanitarian Policy of the World Food Programme.
